Schloss Johannisburg is a Renaissance and Mannerist palace erected between 1605 and 1614 in Aschaffenburg, Franconia, by architect Georg Ridinger for Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg, Prince Bishop of Mainz. Constructed of distinctive red sandstone quarried from the nearby Spessart hills, the schloss served as the second residence of the Archbishop and Prince Elector of Mainz until 1803. Now a museum, it stands as a protected architectural monument in Bavaria and represents an important example of early seventeenth-century German palace architecture.
