Schloss Johannisberg is a neoclassical palace and historic winery situated in the village of Johannisberg, west of Wiesbaden in the Rheingau wine region of Hesse, Germany. Originally established as a Benedictine monastery, the estate was transformed into a Baroque palace and winery in the early 18th century under the Prince-Abbots of Fulda. In the early 19th century, Austrian diplomat Prince Klemens Wenzel von Metternich acquired the property, a gift from Emperor Francis I in recognition of his role at the Congress of Vienna; the Metternich family subsequently managed the estate's winemaking for over 150 years. The 50-hectare vineyard claims to be the world's oldest Riesling vineyard, with more than 900 years of wine-making history, and is renowned for its late-harvest wines and ice wines. Today the palace serves as a cultural venue and hosts the Rheingau Musik Festival, a role furthered by co-founder princess Tatiana von Metternich-Winneburg.
