Schloss Hexenagger is a Bavarian castle in the Altmühl Valley near Altmannstein, first documented in 982 when recorded by the Monastery of St. Emmeram of Regensburg, though it was probably built in the tenth century. Originally the seat of the Muggenthaler noble family, the castle was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War and subsequently rebuilt in the Baroque style. The castle gained historical prominence in 1724 when Elector Karl Albrecht—later Holy Roman Emperor Charles VII—purchased it as a gift for his mistress, Countess Maria Josepha von Morawitzky. Now privately owned by the von Weidenbach family, currently represented by Eberhard Leichtfuß in his sixth generation, the castle remains an active architectural monument supported through the hosting of medieval festivals, weddings, and seasonal markets.
