The Benjamin & Marian Schuster Performing Arts Center, designed by renowned architect César Pelli and completed in 2003, anchors Dayton, Ohio's downtown performing arts district. Built on the former site of Rike's department store, the center was named for local philanthropists Dr. Benjamin Schuster and his wife, Marian, whose $8 million lead donation enabled the project. The venue houses the 2,300-seat Winsupply Theatre, the smaller Mathile Theatre for diverse performances and rehearsals, and a glass-enclosed Kettering Wintergarden lobby. Operated by Dayton Live, it serves as the principal home for the Dayton Philharmonic, Dayton Opera, and Dayton Ballet, while also hosting touring Broadway productions. An attached 15-story residential and office tower, Performance Place Tower, complements the complex, which works in concert with the adjacent Metropolitan Arts Center to define downtown Dayton's cultural landscape.
