Find out more
The Scott Street Firehouse in Montgomery, Alabama, is a Late Victorian fire station constructed in 1889 to serve the city's expanding hilltop neighborhoods, eliminating the need for horses to haul equipment uphill. Originally renovated after 1900, the building operated as an active fire station for over seventy years, transitioning from horse-drawn to motorized equipment in 1926 and remaining in service until 1966. It was adapted for office use following a 1980 renovation and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
