Scottsville Historic District in Albemarle and Fluvanna Counties, Virginia, encompasses 153 contributing buildings alongside one contributing site and four contributing structures. The district displays a diverse architectural palette spanning Federal, Georgian, Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, Prairie, Colonial Revival, and Craftsman styles, reflected in its commercial, residential, religious, factory, and warehouse buildings. Notable structures range from the mid-eighteenth-century Tavern and 1732 Fore House through early Federal examples like Herndon House (1800) and Riverview (1817), to later Victorian and early twentieth-century buildings including the 1920 Scottsville High School. The district also contains period religious buildings such as Scottsville Presbyterian Church (1832) and Disciples Church (1846), along with Cliffside and Mount Walla, which are separately listed on the National Register. Together, these structures document the architectural and commercial evolution of this Virginia river town over nearly three centuries.
