The Scribner Building at 155 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan's Flatiron District is a Beaux-Arts commercial structure completed in 1893 by architect Ernest Flagg. Originally designed as the corporate headquarters of the Charles Scribner's Sons publishing company, the building features a rusticated limestone base on its lowest two stories, with five limestone bays subdividing the facade above and a mansard roof at the sixth story; vertical piers accent the center of the facade. Ground-level retail space originally housed Scribner's bookstore, while the upper floors served as company offices before conversion to standard office space. The publishing firm occupied the building until 1913, when it relocated to another Flagg-designed structure at 597 Fifth Avenue. Designated a New York City Landmark in 1976 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, the building later served as headquarters of the United Synagogue of America from 1973 to 2007 and remains a contributing property to the Ladies' Mile Historic District.
