The Sherman Bates House, a 1½-story fieldstone structure in Hardy, Arkansas, exemplifies vernacular Tudor Revival architecture from the mid-twentieth century. Built in 1940 by Sherman Bates, a local fuel oil business owner, the house sits at the northeast corner of Echo Lane and United States Route 63 and is distinguished by its carefully fitted stonework, particularly a prominent fieldstone chimney on the right side of the main facade and a projecting stone porch on the left. Bates owned the property until enlisting in World War II; subsequent owners were also prominent local businessmen. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
