The Church of Shoghakat, erected in 1694 in Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin), Armenia, was built by Prince Aghamal Sorotetsi during the tenure of Catholicos Nahabed I. Its name, meaning "drop of light," derives from the legend of a ray of light descending from heaven upon the martyrs of Hripsime. Constructed in the Armenian architectural tradition, the church is now recognized as part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and stands as a cultural heritage monument in Armenia.
