The Şişli Mosque, completed in 1949 in Istanbul's Şişli district, was the first mosque built in the city during the Republican era following 1923. Designed by architect Ali Vasfi Egeli in classical Ottoman style and constructed of gritstone ashlar, it stands in a walled courtyard with three gates, responding to the need for a mosque as the neighborhood rapidly urbanized in the 1940s. The building features a porticoed entrance porch, a main dome flanked by three half-domes, and a single-gallery minaret decorated with muqarnas. The courtyard contains a dodecagon-shaped sadirvan for ritual ablution and ancillary spaces for mosque officials and a library. Inside, the heated marble floor is covered with rose-colored carpet, and stained-glass windows frame the marble mihrab. The calligraphic inscription in Arabic script above the main entrance was created by Hamid Aytaç, while decorative calligraphic scripts adorn the inner walls.
