St. George's Round Church in downtown Halifax is a wooden rotunda built in the neo-Classical Palladian style, begun in 1800 with construction completed in 1812. Financed substantially by the British royal family, the church's architect remains unidentified, though Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn—father of Queen Victoria—played a formative role in its design. Located at the corner of Brunswick and Nora Bernard Streets in the North End, the church was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1983 for its significance to Halifax's early history and its distinctive architectural style.
