St. James Anglican Church stands at the corner of East Cordova Street and Gore Avenue in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, a Byzantine Revival and Art Deco structure completed in 1937 by architect Adrian Gilbert Scott. The building's third incarnation on this site, it replaced a wooden 1886 church and represents Scott's synthesis of Byzantine, Romanesque, Gothic, and Art Deco styles in a Greek cross plan. Constructed of reinforced concrete with a slate roof, the church features an eight-bell chime and a Casavant Frères organ with 31 stops and 1,760 pipes. The building was consecrated in 1938, following a construction period that began in 1935.
