St. George's Cathedral in Wiener Neustadt, Austria, is a Gothic structure commissioned by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III from architect Peter von Pusica. Construction began in 1440 on the west side of Burg Wiener Neustadt, and the church was consecrated in 1460, originally dedicated to St. Mary. It took its current patron saint's name in 1479 when the Order of the Knights of St. George established their headquarters in the city. Following the order's abolition in 1600, the church passed to the Cistercians and later the Piarists. With the foundation of the Theresian Military Academy in 1751, the cathedral became integral to the castle's military role. Severely damaged during World War II bombing on March 12, 1945, it was reconstructed between 1946 and 1958. The church has served as the cathedral of the Military Ordinariate of Austria since 1963 and was elevated to minor basilica status in 1967.
