St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church stands at 352 42nd Street at Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood, a striking Byzantine Revival structure completed in 1905. Designed by renowned church architect Raymond F. Almirall, the building features early Romanesque exterior detailing and a prominent domed tower that once ranked as Brooklyn's second-tallest structure after the Williamsburg Savings Bank Tower, earning it comparisons to Paris's Sacré-Cœur. The church emerged from a parish founded in 1870 under Rev. Michael J. Hickey to serve local Catholics who previously traveled to distant parishes for Mass. A parochial school, opened in 1886, operated alongside the church until its closure in 2005.
