The Stade de Gerland, a multi-purpose stadium in Lyon's 7th arrondissement, was designed by architects René Gagès and Tony Garnier and completed in 1913. Situated in the Gerland quarter, the venue initially served football club Olympique Lyonnais before they relocated to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais in 2016; rugby union club Lyon OU subsequently moved in at the beginning of 2017, with the stadium's capacity adjusted to 35,029. Recognized as a monument historique inscrit and part of France's twentieth-century architectural heritage, the stadium has hosted major international sporting events including matches from the 1954 and 1972 Rugby League World Cups, UEFA Euro 1984, the 1998 FIFA World Cup, and the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Beyond sport, the venue has accommodated concerts by prominent artists including The Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, and Genesis.
