The Standard Bank Centre in Johannesburg's Central Business District is a 139-metre futurist skyscraper completed in 1968 and designed by Hubert Petschnigg. Located at the corner of 27 Simmonds Street and 78 Fox Street, the building—also known as the Hanging Building—is renowned for its distinctive top-down construction method: after erecting the central core, floors were suspended from cantilevered arms, with upper levels completed before lower ones. It originally housed Standard Bank until the company relocated in 1990.
