The Stein House in Ashland, Kansas, is a three-bedroom Westchester Deluxe model Lustron house erected in 1950 from enameled steel panels—one of the prefabricated, all-metal dwellings that represented post-war modernist innovation. Built by Merlyn Weidenheiner of Kinsley, the structure stands at 420 Cedar Street and retains its original three-car Lustron garage, a matching steel outbuilding. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001 and recognized on the Register of Historic Kansas Places, the house exemplifies the short-lived but significant Lustron corporation's vision of efficient, factory-built homes for returning veterans and growing families.
