The West House stands at 229 Beech Street in Helena-West Helena, Arkansas, a 2½-story wood-frame residence built in 1900 for Mercer Elmer West by the Clem Brothers of St. Louis. The building embodies a transitional moment in American domestic architecture, blending Colonial Revival elements—then gaining ascendancy—with Queen Anne motifs in their decline. Its façade showcases a wide porch supported by Ionic columns with a spindled balustrade, quoined corners, and a formal entry framed by slender columns supporting an architrave, flanked by sidelights and a transom window above. A Palladian window punctuates the composition to the right of the door, while a bay window with colored-glass transom sits to the left. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
