Stephenson County Courthouse, located on Courthouse Square in Freeport, Illinois, was designed by Elijah E. Myers in the Second Empire style and completed in 1870. The building featured a mansard roof and projecting entrance pavilion, representing Myers' sole venture into Second Empire architecture before he went on to design three state capitols. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974, the courthouse was demolished that same year due to insufficient capacity for the county's growing needs, though it remains on the register despite its destruction.
