Stratford Hall is a Georgian plantation house in Westmoreland County, Virginia, that served as the ancestral seat of the prominent Lee family for four generations. The estate is most notable as the boyhood home of two signers of the Declaration of Independence—Richard Henry Lee and Francis Lightfoot Lee—and as the birthplace of Robert E. Lee, who later became commanding general of the Confederate armies during the Civil War. Now operated as a historic house museum, Stratford Hall was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and remains under the stewardship of the National Park Service.
