Tampere's Central Office Building, colloquially known as the "White House," stands on the edge of Central Square as the city's primary administrative center. Designed by architect Aarne Ervi and completed in two phases—the southern section in 1967 and a northern extension in 1975—the structure exemplifies modern functionalism through its light-colored façade, strip windows, street-level pillars, and partial roof terrace. The building houses the council hall, which protrudes distinctively from the main volume, distinguishing it from a conventional office block. Inside, the restaurant, lobby, and public areas are notably spacious and bright; while the interior has undergone substantial renovation, the council hall has retained its original character. Protected as cultural property by town plan designation since 2009, the building ranks among Tampere's most significant modern architectural landmarks.
