Tampere Market Hall, which opened in 1901 in the center of Tampere, Finland, is the largest market hall in the Nordic countries. Designed by architect Hjalmar Åberg in the Art Nouveau style, the building was erected to replace an unregulated outdoor market with a permanent, centralized marketplace. Spanning 2,100 square meters with a volume of approximately 18,500 cubic meters, the hall contains 174 sales outlets—about 40 percent dedicated to cafeterias and restaurants, including the popular restaurant 4 Vuodenaikaa (Four Seasons). Among its longest-established tenants are the Joenniemi Flower Shop, operating since 1940, and Lindgren Bros. Meat Shop, since 1949. The building is protected under Finnish architectural heritage law and the city's planning regulations.
