Tater Du Lighthouse, located near St Buryan in Cornwall, is the county's most recently constructed lighthouse, built in response to a maritime disaster. After the Spanish coaster Juan Ferrer capsized at nearby Boscawen Point on 23 October 1963, killing 11 people, local fishermen's associations petitioned Trinity House to improve coastal safety. The resulting lighthouse, constructed of concrete blocks and standing 15 metres tall, was first lit in July 1965.
