Temple Adath Israel, located at 429 Daviess Street in Owensboro, Kentucky, is a modest yet ornate Moorish Revival synagogue built in 1877–78 for a Reform Jewish congregation established two decades earlier in 1858. Its façade exemplifies the period's eclectic tastes, combining Moorish Revival styling with Gothic Revival elements: a Gothic-arched entrance door is flanked by Gothic-arched windows, all articulated by four pilasters topped with molded capitals and decorative embellishments. Originally crowned by a parapet and four small onion-domed turrets—hallmarks of Moorish Revival design—the roof ornaments were removed in June 2015 to prevent water damage. As one of the oldest surviving synagogue buildings in the United States, Temple Adath Israel was designated a National Register of Historic Places property in March 1986.
