Temple Israel of the City of New York is a Reform Jewish congregation synagogue located at 112 East 75th Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Founded in 1873 by German Jews, the congregation occupied several buildings throughout its history—at Fifth Avenue and 125th Street (1887), 201 Lenox Avenue and 120th Street (1907), and 210 West 91st Street (1920)—before moving to its current Brutalist structure, completed in 1967. The building's stark, geometric concrete forms exemplify the Brutalist architectural movement that dominated civic and institutional design in mid-century America.
