The Majestic is a 30-story Art Deco cooperative apartment building at 115 Central Park West on Manhattan's Upper West Side, designed by the firm of Irwin S. Chanin and constructed between 1930 and 1931. Twin towers rise from a 19-story base surrounding an internal courtyard, their facades clad in cast stone on the lower three stories and tan and brown brick above, punctuated by vertical piers and horizontal cantilevered solariums at the corners. The innovative structural design features floor slabs cantilevered from a central core, while Art Deco balustrades ornament the terraces. Originally housing 235 apartments ranging from two to eleven rooms with hotel-like services, the building opened in October 1931 but fell to foreclosure within two years. After management by the New York Majestic Corporation, it converted to a housing cooperative in the mid-20th century. A New York City landmark and contributing property to the Central Park West Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places, the Majestic remains an upscale residential address.
