The Red House, located in Port of Spain, is the seat of Parliament in Trinidad and Tobago. Designed in the Beaux-Arts style, the building was reconstructed in 1907 following the destruction of its predecessor during the 1903 Water Riots, rising to a height of 34 metres. Today it serves as the meeting place for parliament, elections, and government proceedings. The building gained international attention in July 1990 when it was seized during the Jamaat al Muslimeen coup attempt, an event that resulted in the six-day hostage-taking of the Prime Minister and other government officials, with 24 fatalities.
