Trakai Island Castle is a Gothic brick fortress situated on an island in Lake Galvė in Trakai, Lithuania. Construction began in the 14th century under Kęstutis and was largely completed around 1409 by his son Vytautas the Great, who died within its walls in 1430. As one of the principal strongholds of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the castle commanded significant strategic importance during the medieval period. The structure fell into disrepair over subsequent centuries, but was substantially reconstructed between the 1950s and 1960s through Lithuanian efforts, despite opposition from Soviet authorities. Following its restoration, the castle was adapted to house the Trakai History Museum.
