Wolgast Castle was a Renaissance stronghold built in 1496 on a small barrier island in the Peenestrom strait near the city of Wolgast in northeastern Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany. Constructed to replace an earlier fortification on what is still known as Castle Island, it became one of Northern Germany's most significant Renaissance buildings. The castle stood until its demolition in the 1820s, when its materials were repurposed for other structures, leaving no ruins. Today, only scattered artifacts survive in various museum collections, though the city's coat of arms—featuring a castle tower flanked by two griffins—preserves the memory of this lost landmark.
