Tropicana Field is a domed multi-purpose stadium in St. Petersburg, Florida, designed by Populous and opened in 1990 as the Florida Suncoast Dome. Home to the Tampa Bay Rays since their establishment, it is the only non-retractable domed stadium in Major League Baseball, a distinction that has made it both a notable local landmark and a frequent target of criticism. The facility's design, particularly its ceiling catwalks, has earned it a reputation as one of the worst stadiums in MLB. Tropicana Field also holds the distinction of being the smallest MLB stadium by seating capacity when obstructed-view rows are covered with tarps, as is standard practice during Rays games. In October 2024, Hurricane Milton destroyed much of the stadium's translucent fiberglass roof membrane; repairs were completed in April 2026, allowing the Rays to return after playing the 2025 season at an alternate venue.
