Built in 1906–07 for the newly formed Turner County, Georgia, this Romanesque Revival jail in Ashburn was designed by the Montgomery, Alabama firm Wagoner and Dobson at a cost of $10,855. The compact brick structure, measuring 44 by 46 feet, features elaborately corbeled entablature-like cornices characteristic of its style. Inside, arched corrugated metal and concrete ceilings complete the utilitarian yet architecturally considered design. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, the building—locally known as Turner Castle—now operates as the Crime and Punishment Museum and houses The Last Meal Cafe.
