Portland Union Station, completed in 1896 near the western shore of the Willamette River in Old Town Chinatown, is a Romanesque Revival landmark designed by Henry Van Brunt and Pietro Belluschi. Built in brick, stucco, sandstone, and steel, the 150-meter-tall structure serves as a major transportation hub for the Portland metropolitan area, hosting Amtrak's Cascades, Coast Starlight, and Empire Builder routes alongside connections to MAX Light Rail, the Portland Streetcar, and regional bus services. The building houses Wilf's Restaurant & Bar on its ground floor, offices above, and notably features Amtrak's first Metropolitan Lounge on the West Coast. Its strategic location allows trains to access historic rail infrastructure including the Steel Bridge crossing to the southeast. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the station is owned by Prosper Portland, the city's economic development agency.
