The United States Post Office at 120 West Fourth Street in Petaluma, California, completed in 1933, exemplifies the Spanish Colonial Revival style with Gothic accents that emerged during the Depression-era federal building programs. The façade features five rounded arches crowned by a terracotta frieze, while the roof is laid with interlocking clay tiles. Constructed primarily of terracotta, the building represents a transitional moment in American architectural taste—bridging the classicism of the 1920s and the stripped modernism of the 1930s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985, it stands as a significant example of how regional stylistic preferences shaped federal architecture in California during this era.
