The University of Toronto Scarborough, one of three campuses of the University of Toronto, occupies suburban parkland adjacent to Highland Creek in Toronto's Scarborough district, 22 kilometres east of the downtown St. George campus. Established in 1964 as Scarborough College, it was the first permanent regional expansion of the university and the first to locate at distance from the original campus. The brutalist and modernist architecture of its original Andrews Building earned international acclaim for its design. Today, the sprawling campus—largest by land area among the university's three locations—primarily hosts undergraduate programs in management, arts, and sciences, and is distinguished for pioneering Canada's first mental health studies program and for its robust cooperative education offerings. The campus also houses the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre and Dan Lang Field, and has annually hosted the F. B. Watts Memorial Lectures since 1970, drawing internationally renowned scholars.
