The Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County, Florida, is a monumental structure completed in 1966 to assemble and vertically stack massive space vehicle components onto mobile launcher platforms. Originally called the Vertical Assembly Building, the VAB was designed to accommodate the Saturn V, Space Shuttle, and Space Launch System rockets, most recently hosting the assembly of the first SLS rocket for the Artemis I mission, which launched in November 2022. At 160.3 meters tall and containing 3.67 million cubic meters of volume—the eighth-largest building by volume in the world—it remains the largest single-story building globally and the tallest structure outside an urban area in the United States. The building held the title of Florida's tallest building until 1974 and is recognized as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.
