The Vernal Utah Temple, located in Vernal, Utah, is the fifty-first temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the tenth in the state. Announced for construction on February 13, 1994, it was groundbroken on May 13, 1995, by church president Gordon B. Hinckley and dedicated on November 2, 1997. Designed by FFKR Architects in modern style, it is architecturally distinctive as the church's first temple adapted from a previously existing structure—in this case, an adaptation of the Uintah Stake Tabernacle's original design. The building features two domed towers, with the east tower crowned by a gold-leafed statue of the angel Moroni.
