Versailles, a Greek Revival frame house built between 1853 and 1857 in Burgess, Northumberland County, Virginia, exemplifies mid-nineteenth-century domestic architecture in the Old Dominion. The 2½-story, five-bay dwelling measures approximately 46 by 30 feet and features a gable roof. Its most distinguished element is the front facade, which displays a two-story pedimented entrance porch with classical entablature and a second-floor balcony—hallmarks of the Greek Revival style. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 and designated a Virginia Historic Landmark, Versailles preserves the refined taste of its era.
