Waverly, a historic house near Middleburg in Fauquier County, Virginia, evolved over more than a century from its original construction around 1790, with significant enlargements circa 1830 and again in the 1850s. This I-house features a characteristic center-hall, two-story plan with a substantial two-story rear ell and Gothic Revival decorative detailing throughout. Its front facade is dominated by a full-width two-story portico supported by six square piers and topped with a flat roof and plain wooden parapet. Following its post-1940 renovation by architect David Adler, the house was recognized as a significant example of Virginia's architectural heritage, earning listing on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and designation as a Virginia Historic Landmark.
