Located at the end of The Mall in London, the Victoria Memorial is a grand Beaux-Arts monument to Queen Victoria, designed by architect Sir Aston Webb and featuring sculpture by Sir Thomas Brock. Begun in 1901, the memorial was unveiled on 16 May 1911, though construction continued until 1924. The structure's central pylon rises in Pentelic marble, while individual statues incorporate Lasa marble and gilt bronze, creating an elaborate iconographic programme comparable to the earlier Albert Memorial. Weighing 2,300 tonnes and measuring 32 metres in diameter, the memorial served as the centrepiece of an ambitious urban scheme that included the redesign of Queen's Gardens and the refacing of Buckingham Palace, both also by Webb. It was granted Grade I listed status in 1970.
