The Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, Germany, near Basel, Switzerland, is a privately owned design museum established in 1989 by Rolf Fehlbaum, son of Vitra founders Willi and Erika Fehlbaum. Designed by architect Frank Gehry, the building itself exemplifies the innovative design the institution celebrates. Founded as an independent private foundation, the museum receives financial support and organizational cooperation from the Vitra corporation, which also grants it access to the company's architectural holdings.
