Warner's Hotel at 50 Cathedral Square, Christchurch, is a Victorian-era hotel with roots reaching back to 1863. The original structure burned in 1900, prompting reconstruction in 1901. Over subsequent decades the building underwent significant modifications—a fourth storey was added in 1910, and in 1917 the northern end was demolished to make way for a theatre that would muffle noise from the adjacent Lyttelton Times Building's printing presses. After the theatre's removal in 1996, the site became a beer garden until 2010, when a Novotel opened and the 1901 façade was carefully recreated to maintain architectural continuity. The building earned Category II heritage status from Heritage New Zealand before being demolished in late 2011 following the devastating February earthquake that struck the city.
