The Watonwan County Courthouse in St. James, Minnesota, completed in 1896, stands as an exemplary Romanesque Revival structure and one of the state's remaining monumental Victorian courthouses. Designed during the height of the Romanesque Revival movement, the building has served continuously as the seat of government for Watonwan County since its completion. Recognized for its architectural significance and enduring role in local governance, the courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, acknowledged both as a striking example of late-nineteenth-century courthouse design and as a cherished community landmark.
