In Wautoma, Wisconsin, a pair of Neoclassical buildings once stood together as civic landmarks. The Waushara County Sheriff's Residence and Jail, a brick Georgian Revival structure designed by C. H. Williams and completed in 1908, ingeniously combined domestic and institutional functions—the sheriff's family occupied the front while jail cells occupied the rear. Now operated as a museum by the Waushara County Historical Society, this building survives on South Ste. Marie Street. Its companion, the Waushara County Courthouse, was a monumental Classical Revival structure designed by E. A. Stubenrauch and built in 1928, distinguished by its essential Neoclassical portico and symmetrical facade. A 1981 architectural survey praised its simplicity and careful maintenance as befitting a community landmark. Both buildings were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, though the courthouse was demolished in May 2025.
