The Weins Commercial Building stands in Independence, Iowa, a two-story brick structure completed in 1892 as part of a second phase of commercial development away from the town's original First Avenue district. Designed in the Romanesque Revival style—unusual among Independence's predominantly Italianate commercial architecture—the building features patterned brickwork, round-arch windows, and rusticated limestone and brick courses that articulate its interior divisions. These masonry details distinguish it from the simpler commercial structures that replaced the wooden buildings destroyed by fires in 1873 and 1874. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.
