Built in 1871 in Spillville, Iowa, the Wenzil Taylor Building is a two-story Italianate commercial structure and the last remaining building from the town's original commercial district. Constructed for Wenzil Taylor as a general merchandise store, the building features side and rear walls of rubble limestone contrasted by a brick façade ornamented with characteristic Italianate details: brick arches with dressed limestone keystones, recessed brick panels, and brick pilasters. The bracketed cornice crowning the structure is a recreation installed during a comprehensive 1980s restoration. After decades serving as a merchandise store and later as a residence, the building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and subsequently converted into a restaurant and inn.
