Hotel Tipton is a two-story Italianate building anchoring the central business district of Tipton, Iowa. Designed by architect H.W. Zeidler of Muscatine and completed in 1895, the hotel was financed through stock subscriptions from twelve of the town's leading citizens, each contributing $1,000. Its L-shaped footprint proved economically shrewd: the ground floor combined hotel functions—lobby, office, dining room, and kitchen—with four retail units whose rental income sustained operations, while the upper floor contained 35 guest rooms, parlor, sitting room, and bathrooms. The building's commercial stability proved enduring; in the late 1990s, portions of the second floor were converted to apartments. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.
