The Hotel Whitney is a three-story Art Deco brick building completed in 1931 in Atlantic, Iowa. Constructed with the structural capacity to support up to ten additional stories, the building features a distinctive raised parapet at the center of its main façade and exemplifies the Chicago School architectural tradition. During the mid-twentieth century, it served as a designated civil defense shelter for southwest Iowa. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016, the Hotel Whitney is undergoing adaptive reuse, with the upper two floors being converted into eighteen senior apartments and the ground floor reimagined as a breakfast and lunch restaurant.
