The Hippee Building, completed in 1913 in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, stands as a landmark of Early Commercial architecture designed by the local firm Sawyer and Watrous. At 172 feet tall with twelve stories, this office building developed by George B. Hippee was Iowa's tallest skyscraper upon completion. The structure reflects the Chicago School's influence on regional commercial design. Originally serving as office space, the building underwent conversion to a hotel following its 2017 acquisition by the Aparium Hotel Group of Chicago, with plans to establish 138 rooms. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2018.
