The Randolph Hotel is a fireproof hotel in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, designed by H.L. Stevens & Company and completed in 1912. Sited at the corner of Fourth Street and Court Avenue on the historic Court Avenue strip, this eight-story structure exemplifies Chicago School and Neoclassical architecture. When built, it was hailed as the city's first and only "absolutely fireproof hotel"—a distinction complicated by an actual fire that occurred in 2010. Originally designed for transient guests, the building later shifted to long-term residential rentals. In 2008, rehabilitation into low- and moderate-income housing, supported by federal and state historic preservation tax credits, was undertaken. The Randolph was added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 11, 2009.
