Perched at West Quoddy Head in Lubec, Maine—the easternmost point of the contiguous United States—this lighthouse marks a crucial navigational waypoint through the Quoddy Narrows. Though a lighthouse was first erected on the site in 1808, the current structure dates to 1858 and is distinguished by its iconic red-and-white striped tower. Now housed within Quoddy Head State Park, the station remains an active aid to navigation and retains its original 3rd order Fresnel lens, one of only eight such lenses still operating along the Maine Coast. The light station was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
